The Evictions Continue – Larung Gar by Marco Grassi WEBSITE | INSTAGRAM | FACEBOOK | After reading that two nuns have committed suicide as a sign of protest and after I saw some videos of hundreds of monks and nuns in tears forced to leave their homes and never return. I thought I just had to share with you these pictures and try to bring as much attention as possible in what’s happening in Larung Gar. For those of you who are not aware of the facts here is a brief explanation: “What before was the largest buddhist settlement in the world and a remote place out of the modern society where nuns and monks led a pacific life, is now being demolished by Chinese authorities. First, the access to Larung Gar has been blocked for non-chinese residents and every single tourist trying to visit the place has been stopped by military forces and forced to leave. Then, a 7-point demolition order with the purpose to destroy thousands of monastic dwellings and expel monks and nuns has been issued (you can read the complete order here: http://tchrd.org/china-issues-demolition-order-on-worlds-largest-religious-town-in-tibet ). Long story short, by the end of September 2017 more than 5.000 houses will be demolished. Houses that monks and nuns have payed for, with their own efforts, will be soon washed away, turning these people into homeless who don’t have a place to go anymore. Since June 2016, everything has changed in Larung Gar, but almost nobody knows about that. Marco Grassi: Photos
