I woke up very early that morning, I left the hotel where we stayed in Jaisalmer at 5 a.m. to try to finally catch a beautiful sunrise over the Gadi Sagar lake in the outskirts of Jaisalmer. For info, Jaisalmer is a 55.000 inhabitants city located in Rajasthan, around 80km far from the Pakistan border in the middle of the desert of Thar. I reached the lake 20 minutes before sunrise time, there was no one there as the nearest houses are fairly far away. Only 2 old men on the edge of the lake that came from the city to practice their every morning yoga. I didn’t want to bother them. Then 3 men arrived to me, they had just finished their jogging. I chatted with them to wait for the sunrise, they were 3 ground officers of the Indian Air Force, located in a nearby base close to the Pakistan border. I almost forgot the sunrise after 20 minutes of chat with them, simply because they weren’t any sunrise! The low clouds above the horizon were blocking as every other monsoon day while the high sky was already lit up. My sunrise was not going to happen today. I decided to take a walk around this lake, surrounded by the desert. One week before, the lake was dry and it became huge since then thanks to the monsoon rains. My early morning wake up got sense when I crossed several Rajasthani women leading their small groups of cattle through these dry lands to the miraculous lake fed by the monsoon. After all, getting back with such a real life scene was far better than a sunrise on a lake, even with beautiful temples reflections…
