Thanks to interference by the CAIR mafia, SB58, American Laws for American Courts, did NOT make it on the agenda for the Senate Rules Committee for next week. This was unexpected. The bill passed overwhelmingly in the House last week and has made it through three previous committees in the Senate.
CAIR has engaged Senator Miguel Diaz de la Portilla, who is preparing a dual attack on Florida’s American Laws for American Courts, anti-Sharia legislation.
Senator Miguel Diaz de la Portilla’s persistent and extraordinary opposition reeks of anti-American sentiment and foreign law placation.
Florida Family Association has learned from several sources that Republican Senator Miguel Diaz de la Portilla is planning two attacks to derail SB 58 Application of Foreign Law in Certain Cases. Senator Diaz de la Portilla plans to offer a hostile amendment when the bill is heard in the Florida Senate Committee on Rules AND when the legislation is considered on the floor by the full senate.
Senator Diaz de la Portilla pushed the same kill hostile bill amendment in the 2012 Florida Legislative Session. The senator alsovoted againstSB 58 during the Committee on Children, Families, and Elder Affairs meeting on April 8, 2013. Senator Diaz de la Portilla is the only Florida Republican that has voted against the legislation which is intended to prohibit Florida courts from considering certain provisions of foreign laws including Islamic Sharia law.
Ahmed Bedier, former CAIR leader who heads another Islamic organization, sent an email on April 12, 2013 to their supporters which praised their group’s influence on Senator Diaz de la Portilla’s vote “1. This week, Florida Senator MiguelDiaz de la Portilla became the first Republican lawmaker to vote against the bill. Which tells us our campaign, the emails, phone calls and lobbying, is making a difference.” Ahmed Bedier defended Sami Al Arian, who was indicted and pleaded guilty to a charge of conspiring to provide services to the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ). He also defended two University of South Florida students who were arrested for allegedly carrying explosives near the Goose Creek, S.C naval base.
Is it possible the most ardent opponent of SB 58 in the Florida Legislature, Senator Diaz de la Portilla, is waging war against Florida’s American Laws for American Courts legislation without communicating or corroborating with the most fervent Islamic leader and opponent of SB 58 in Florida, Ahmed Bedier?
Florida Family Association rhetorically asked in 2012 “Whose interest did Senator Miguel Diaz de la Portilla’s amendment help? Was it CAIR (Council on American Islamic Relations) Florida? It certainly did not represent the interests of citizens who want only American Laws in America Courts?”
This year Florida Family Association has submitted a public records request to Senator Miguel Diaz de la Portilla and his staff to inquire about Islamists’ influence with SB 58.
Florida Family Association has prepared an email for you to send to Florida Senator MiguelDiaz de la Portilla regarding his plans to attack SB 58 twice. Please feel free to change this message to your own words.

(h/t Chris H) We need as many emails and phone calls as possible to go into 3 key senators from Florida and across America starting FIRST THING Monday morning if possible–and continuously through the end of the day Wednesday.
We need everyone to call the capitol offices AND the district offices of these 3 senators AND to email them as well at the emails given below. It is very important that everyone call BOTH offices for each senator AND email them as well. There are reports that one member of the Senate leadership reported receiving 300 phone calls in OPPOSITION to SB58 last week–mostly from Muslims and many from across America.
We need to show that there is a lot more support for SB58 than there is opposition.Express, respectfully, but forcefully, that you are disappointed and outraged that SB58 by Senator Alan Hays has not made it onto the agenda for the Rules Committee to have an opportunity to make it to the floor for an up or down vote.Last year, 11th hour shenanigans derailed the effort to pass American Laws for American Courts in Florida.
Make sure that the Senate leadership in Florida knows that you will not stand for a repeat of past failures to pass this important legislation, which recently was signed into law in another state (Oklahoma), bringing the total to 5 states thus far.
