GRAVITATIONAL WAVES  Albert Einstein was Right!

Scientists announce discovery of GRAVITATIONAL WAVES proving Albert Einstein right Scientists from the Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory (LIGO) have announced the discovery of gravitational waves. Speaking at the National Science Foundation (NSF), Dave Reitze, LIGO director, said to a round of applause: “Ladies and gentleman, we have detected gravitational waves. “We did it. I am so pleased to tell you that.” The search for proof of gravitational waves has remained a focus of many scientists since Albert Einstein first theorised about the elusive phenomenon in 1915 in his Theory of General Relativity. Einstein believed such a phenomena may exist, but that we would never have the tools to detect them. However, technology has advanced massively since the German theoretical physicist’s time, and now LIGO experts have studied ripples from a black hole merger billions of years ago. Reitze added that it is “exactly” what Albert Einstein had theorised. Gravitational waves come about as a result of explosions or violent events in the universe – such as a supernova or when black holes merge. The stronger and more forceful an explosion is, the more powerful the gravitational waves it will emit. Much like a rubber dingy boat floating on water, the waves can pull objects back and forth as they travel at the speed of light through space. For example, it has been theorised that gravitational waves from the big bang are still pulling and pushing objects throughout the universe on a minute scale – which has so far been undetectable because of the lack of advanced technology. To date, the majority of our information on space has come from telescopes but if gravitational waves have been proved true, then astronomers could use them to gain a better understanding.
