We are fortunate to live at a part of world where we experience seasonal changes. Observing and living in rhythm with nature can be beneficial to our health and well – being. Living in harmony with nature is not a new idea, it is something very traditional.
Winters time is also a seasonal change of nature. This season is the most beautiful and romantic. There is snow everywhere, cool winds touch our skin and give us a fresh feel, days are shorter, life slows down, nature withdraws into itself, and the earth rests. Winter is a time of regeneration. The cold and dampness, which is a hint to stay home where it is warm and comfortable.
We change our daily routine according to the season. We start wearing warm clothes; we add herbs and spices to our diet winterize our homes, put away summer clothes. But have you ever noticed how animals take care of themselves in this season? How they face this cold, storms? They even don’t have a place to save themselves. They don’t have warm clothes like us. Then how they survive?
Nature has its way of watching out for animals. Animals do many different things to get through winter. Some of them ‘migrate’, some animals remain and stay active. They must adapt to the changing weather. To keep warm, they may grow new, thicker fur.
Food is hard to find in the winter. Some animals gather extra food, some spend winter looking for moss, bark, and leaves to eat. Animals may find winter shelter in holes in trees or logs, under rocks, or underground.
Trees begin to lose their leaves, to go into their winter hibernate. With this much commotion in nature, we can detect colder months ahead as well.
