Balloons are the flexible plastic bags inflated with air, water, gas or human breath. They are sold as playthings for kids and also used for celebrations and memorials.
They are admired during hot air balloon festivals. A helium-filled balloon recently had made international news that took former Austrian paratrooper Felix Baumgartner some 24 miles above the earth to set the new world record for the highest skydive. He plummeted 128,100 feet on Oct. 14 at a top speed of 833.9 miles per hour, landing in over nine minutes.
- Dado Ruvic captured a mesmerizing picture of a woman releasing a balloon into the air during the 20th anniversary of the closure of the Omarska detention camp in Omarska on Aug. 6. At his memorial people released balloons in the air in the name of missing persons marking the closure of ceremony commemorating around 800 people who died in the camp which housed approximately 5,000 people during the 1992 Bosnian War 1992 Bosnian War.

More than 20,000 visitors were expected by the organizers to attend the party that was first held in 2004.

Eid al-Fitr marks the end of holy month of Ramadan during which Muslims all over the world fast from sunrise to sunset.

- On Aug. 10 in Bristol, England hot air balloons were taken to the skies from Ashton Court at the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta. Matt Cardy captured this picture on the early morning when the flight of nearly 100 balloons over the city was the first mass ascent of the four-day Bristol International Balloon Fiesta. The Bristol International Balloon Fiesta is Europe’s largest annual hot air balloon event in its 34th year in the city that is seen by many balloonists as the home of modern ballooning.
- The picture was captured on October 6, on the opening day of the Homeless World Cup tournament in Mexico City where an Argentine player is clicking a picture while holding a balloon and her national flag. The tournament takes place with 62 teams from 54 countries, including 14 women’s teams, according to the organizers at the Plaza de la Constitucion or Zocalo square, from 6-14 Oct. Participants of the tournament are either asylum seekers, homeless or in drug or alcohol rehabilitation. The picture was clicked by Edgard Garrido.
- On September 30, Philippe Huguen captured the photograph of a hot air balloon at the time of sunrise which was flying over the city of Godewaersvelde, northern France.
- Tsering Topgyal captured the picture at the Magic Festival in New Delhi, India, on Sept. 15 where a magician is performing with a balloon. In this fest people got a glance of a different form of a magic varying from general tricks on playing cards and other optical illusions.
- Feng Li clicked the picture of a yellow hot air balloon on July 21 in London, England that was floating near the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben.
