Baby Girl Born with Part of her Brain OUTSIDE her Skull Defies Doctors to Thrive
Faith Martin was born with a birth defect called encephalocele
She was diagnosed during a pregnancy scan and her parents were told she would probably not be able to breathe at birth and wouldn’t be resuscitated
They were warned that even if she survived she could be severely disabled
They decided not to terminate the pregnancy to give her a chance
When she was born she cried immediately and was able to go home
She has now had surgery to remove the protrusion and is not believed to have suffered any long-term problems
A baby born with part of her brain outside her skull is thriving despite doctors giving her little chance of survival.
Faith Martin, now aged three months, was not expected to breathe on her own when she was born.
Doctors also explained to her heartbroken parents Jessica Williams, 20, and Aaron Martin, 21, that they wouldn’t intervene if she couldn’t.
