(N.Morgan) Arizona is experiencing an odd and bizarre weather pattern, that is foreign to the region. In the part of Arizona discussed, it is desert and maybe rains a little a couple of time a year. When I lived in Las Vegas, it only rained once when I was there and it flooded Vegas Blvd. due to the lack of a drainage system there.
In the video below, a resident of Arizona discusses how much rain they have had and the flooding that has been occurring.
302zombie:So it Rained something crazy yesterday 03/1/2014 and one of the streets by where I live got completely flooded out. See out here in Arizona the drains cant handle when we get a heavy rain, and the streets tend to get flooded in some areas. Along with a few spots where people can get on or off the I-17.
Huh. Well, being thus challenged (and because it beats cleaning the garage…), I looked up the last 118 years of historical monthly weather averages for Phoenix. They can be found at the National Weather Service, here: http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/psr/climate/
Comparing 2013 to the average, it was very slightly wetter than average. Phoenix got 8.4 inches of rain compared to the average of 7.6 inches (sigma 3.2). So, rainfall was well within expected norms.
2013 was somewhat hotter, 75.9 degrees, than the 118 year average of 72 degrees. However it was quite normal against the average for the past 30 years (75.2 degrees). That’s because in the past 30 years Phoenix has become a “heat island” due to the huge population growth and along with it many many square miles of heat-absorbing and heat-retaining asphalt and concrete; not to mention millions of hot automobile engines, etc.
So, I will stick by my statement. The weather in Phoenix has been quite normal.
if you’re world isn’t bigger than Phoenix, okay everything is normal but if you look out of you’re little world you see ‘other’ weather phenomens that aren’t ‘normal’. exemple: snow in egypt, several storms with hurricane power cross the UK, germany, the netherlands, ice-rain in Slovenia and the list go on and on and on…. But hey if statistics tell you that in Phoenix everything is normal than you haven’t to worry about the rest of the world.
My world, bigger than Phoenix? Heck you guys have aircraft carriers that are bigger than my country.
Biggest storm for you folk was in 69′ and the current freeze only sets a 40 odd year record. Stop making stuff up and expecting to get away with it, bliss.
I think this author needs to go back to school and get his degree in meteorology he sure needs help in identify cloud formations.
I’ve lived in the Phoenix area 3o+ years and its the same old same old weather.
I have lived in Phoenix for over 17 years. The weather has been quite normal lately.
come on! I live on earth for over 33 years, and I never, never ever seen weather like this before!! In my country the whole winter is like spring!!
Well Warren, it seems 2 people beg to differ.

Very well done, Warren.
