Maybe it was the opportunity to take a swipe at the Republican congressman who has vowed to haul Hillary Clinton before his investigative committee and get to the bottom of the Benghazi scandal. Maybe it was the fact that two GOP lawmakers, each a former prosecutor, dared to proudly hold a ceremonial firearm inside a Capitol office building. Or possibly it was the reference to the Second Amendment and Tea Party organizations in the tweet that set the investigative wheels in motion.
Whatever the motivation, several media outlets reportedly asked authorities in Washington, D.C., to look into whether Reps. Trey Gowdy and Ken Buck may have violated the District’s very strict gun laws by posing with a decorated AR-15 in Buck’s office. Buck, a Colorado congressman posted the seemingly benign picture to his twitter account.

The Daily Caller reports that the gun is inoperable, according to Rep. Buck, who also said he had obtained permission from the U.S. Capitol Police to keep the ceremonial firearm in his office.
Still, apparently, D.C. authorities are conducting some sort of investigation.
But, predictably, that hasn’t stopped Trey Gowdy from talking about the brouhaha on TV and making light of the incident. Gowdy appeared on Fox and Friends, telling Brian Kilmeade that “the real crime is the suit I have on.”
The South Carolina congressman also divulged new information about the ongoing Benghazi investigation, telling Kilmeade that the Select Committee has heard many hours of closed-door testimony from new witnesses who have helped to fill in the blanks about what happened at the U.S, outpost where four Americans died.
