What does this picture look like to you? Protection gear and tear gas again? No, hopefully we won’t see those cruel scenes get repeated. Actually this is something happy and enjoyable!
The annual Water Splashing Festival is a tradition of the Dai ethnic minority with a long history.
It falls on April 15 this year, and is part of the New Year celebrations for the year 1377 of the Dai Calendar. The festival normally lasts three to seven days.
Water is regarded by the Dai as a symbol of religious purification, and also of goodwill among people.
Tens of thousands of local people and tourists splashed each other with water, wishing everyone good luck, happiness, and health on the splashing square of Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture in Yunnan Province.
