An editorial in a publication associated with the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) claimed it could smuggle a nuclear weapon into the United States through its southern border.
The latest edition of Dabiq published at the end of last month contended that ISIS had the capability to purchase a nuclear weapon in Pakistan, ship it to Nigeria, and then transport it to Mexico, where they would smuggle it into the U.S.
This is how it is described in the article “The Perfect Storm”:
The Islamic State has billions of dollars in the bank, so they call on their wilāyah in Pakistan to purchase a nuclear device through weapons dealers with links to corrupt officials in the region.
The weapon is then transported overland until it makes it to Libya, where the mujāhidīn move it south to Nigeria. Drug shipments from Columbia bound for Europe pass through West Africa, so moving other types of contraband from East to West is just as possible.
The nuke and accompanying mujāhidīn arrive on the shorelines of South America and are transported through the porous borders of Central America before arriving in Mexico and up to the border with the United States.
From there it’s just a quick hop through a smuggling tunnel and hey presto, they’re mingling with another 12 million “illegal” aliens in America with a nuclear bomb in the trunk of their car.
Nigerian-based terrorist organization Boko Haram pledged allegiance to ISIS in March.
Commander of U.S. Southern Command Gen. John Kelly warned the Senate Armed Services Committee that the threat posed by Muslim extremists is increasing in Latin America.
“Sunni extremists, while small in number, are actively involved in the radicalization of converts and other Muslims in the region and also provide financial and logistical support to designated terrorist organizations within and outside Latin America,” Kelly told the Senate panel in March.
“Partner nation officials throughout the region have expressed concern over the increasing number of suspected Islamic extremists from the hemisphere who are traveling to Syria to participate in jihad,” Kelly continued. “Some take part in military and weapons training before departing; last year 19 Trinidadian Muslims were detained in Venezuela for conducting training with high-powered weapons.”
