The red-hot controversy surrounding the Duggar family and their eldest son’s self-confessed sexual misbehavior is well known, as Western Journalism has reported for weeks. Josh Duggar’s improper touching of his sisters when he was a teenager has prompted the TLC cable network to pull the show 19 Kids and Counting from its program lineup, pending a final decision on its fate.
Now, one of the stars of another very popular TV reality show is making headlines with his own story of sexual abuse. Duck Dynasty’s Jep Robertson has told Entertainment Tonight that he was repeatedly molested by an older student when he was in elementary school. In the exclusive interview ahead of the release of his new book co-written with his wife, Jessica, the 37-year-old Jep tells ET of the abuse he kept secret for years:
“I was 6 and it was on a school bus and it was an older girl,” Jep exclusively tells ET. “Back then the high school students would ride on the same bus as the grade school. There was this girl there that was just real mean…I don’t know, but it was a lot of things took place — scary stuff. It was tough.”
In the forthcoming book, “The Good, the Bad, and the Grace of God: What Honesty and Pain Taught Us About Faith, Family, and Forgiveness,” Jep also writes about his troubled years as a teen when he abused drugs and alcohol. He acknowledges it was a tearful family intervention that helped save him from his self-destructive behavior.
Dad called me in there and he said, “You need to choose between us and the life you’re living,” and I just fell down on my knees and said, “Thank you so much. What took you all so long?”
By clicking on the video above, you can watch a portion of the exclusive Entertainment Tonight interview with Jep and Jessica Robertson in which the Duck Dynasty star reveals what happened after the older student began to molest him.
Duck Dynasty returns to A&E for another season on June 24th.
