Here’s an idea — so as not to conflict with the month-long observance of Ramadan by devout Muslims, let’s not celebrate America’s Independence Day on July 4th because it falls within the period when Muslims worldwide commemorate the first revelation of the Quran to Muhammad. If you think that makes little to no sense, then you probably won’t think much of what the U.S. Embassy in Indonesia has just done.
As The Jakarta Post reports: “The United States Embassy enjoyed its annual 4th of July celebration on Thursday, June 4, one month early, in order to respect the upcoming Ramadan month, which will begin on June 17 and last for one month.”
In addition to moving the embassy’s July 4th festivities to June 4th, the U.S. Ambassador to Indonesia also stressed not the traditional red, white, and blue…rather the color green, to be more in keeping with an environmental and not a patriotic theme.
“…the theme of the event leaned toward “green” development, which supported the US’ focus on building and promoting a green economy and more environmentally sustainable development.”
The annual observance of Ramadan runs from June 17th to July 17th and is regarded as one of the Five Pillars of Islam. In writing for American Thinker about the non-July-4th-4th-of-July observance by the ambassador and his embassy staff in Indonesia, Thomas Lifson observed:
If you think any Islamic countries – there are 57 of them (not counting ISIS) that count themselves officially Islamic – will move their DC embassy’s celebration of Ramadan to accommodate our Independence holiday, I have some bridges to sell you.
It is a bedrock of Islamic scripture that infidels must bow down in submission to Islam and Muslims, being tolerated so long as they endure humiliations and pay a special tax. Muslims have no obligations at all to infidels, which is why you will never see an counterpart to the submission just demonstrated by the US Embassy in Jakarta.
