After Boehner’s Resignation, Here Is The Man Most Likely To Replace Him

(Before It's News)

The Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, John Boehner, shocked the Republican Party Friday with his sudden and unexpected announcement that he was resigning from his position. One day after his 20-year-long dream came true when Pope Francis addressed Congress, Boehner submitted his resignation.

Apparently overwhelmed with emotion at Thursday’s address to Congress, Boehner was tearful throughout the pope’s entire speech to Congress.

Now, the nation waits to see who will be elected as the next speaker of the House. The most likely candidate, some are saying, is Kevin McCarthy, the second-highest ranking House Republican.

McCarthy, a representative from California, is seen as an obvious choice as a replacement as he is the House Majority Leader.  However, others are already giving their opinion as to who should replace Boehner.

Sean Hannity would like to see Trey Gowdy of South Carolina become the next Speaker of the House. Gowdy, a highly vocal critic of the Obama administration, may get his chance. Boehner, according to many of his critics, was too soft with the current administration, not challenging Obama on many of his initiatives.

Republicans have had the upper hand, controlling the House and the Senate in recent years.

Gowdy has not pulled any punches on Obama, accusing him of acting outside of the rule of law and acting like a dictator instead of a representative of the people.

Mark Meadows, a tea party member, filed a motion in July to oust Boehner. Boehner survived that coup in July but may have seen the writing on the wall and is trying “to avoid putting the party through tumult,” according to Peter King, a Republican representative from New York.

Do you think Boehner should step down? Is it time for the Republican party to use the power they currently hold in the Congress?
