Cop’s Body Cam Captures Dramatic Moment Troopers Rescue Man Pinned Inside Sinking Car
Dramatic police body cam video has emerged out of Utah showing state troopers saving a man who had crashed his car in a canal and had become trapped in the wreckage.
Utah Highway Patrol trooper Sgt. Joshua Carr’s body camera highlighted how America’s first responders jump to action in an emergency as the Sergeant and his fellow officers saved the life of 45-year-old Paul Sleight, whose legs had become pinned in the car he slammed into a canal in Fielding, Utah.
Police report that a Good Samaritan called 911 after spotting debris on the side of the road; and police, fire, and EMS crews responded at about 1:30 PM on Friday.
When rescue crews arrived, the trapped man had already opened his car door but was unable to exit the vehicle.
“The driver was pinned in the car and attempting to hold himself out of the water,” the Utah Highway Patrol reported. “He was holding himself up using his arms and the roof of the car.”
Rescuers then discovered that the driver’s legs were pinned under the car’s crumpled dashboard.
Sgt. Carr procured a ladder from a nearby house to cross over to the car. He then worked to free the man’s legs, discovering in the process that the driver had sustained two broken legs.
EMS workers later reported that Mr. Sleight had suffered several compound fractures to both of his legs, and he was taken to a nearby hospital where he was listed in stable condition.
This isn’t the first unusual adventure experienced by Sgt. Carr lately. Earlier this year, the trooper helped deliver a baby on the side of I-15 near Willard, Utah.
