PA President Abbas Says He Will Announce Bombshell Move That Will Dramatically Change The Situation In Israel

(Before It's News)

On September 8, Western Journalism reported the Palestinian Authority was preparing “drastic moves against Israel” that could spell the end of the Oslo process. These “drastic moves” could involve the annulment of the accords the PA signed with Israel such as the Oslo 1 and 2 accords from 1993 and 1995, as well as the Sharm el-Sheikh agreement of 1994 and the more recent economic agreement that was signed in Paris.

“The decision to annul the agreements with Israel will be taken by the central committee of the PLO during the upcoming meeting. PLO official Ahmed Majdalani told Ma’an News in Bethlehem that the text of an announcement about the new relationship with Israel has already been drafted by the preparatory committee of the Palestinian National Council,” we reported at the time.

The mastermind behind the anticipated moves is said to be Saeb Erekat, the PA’s chief negotiator, who recently was appointed Secretary General of the executive committee of the PLO after PA leader Mahmoud Abbas resigned.

Today, Israeli media reported that Abbas has revealed he will make a bombshell announcement at the end of his upcoming speech at the General Assembly of the United Nations on September 29.

In an interview with Arab media, Abbas said “I will drop a ‘bombshell’ at the end of my speech at the General Assembly, and I refuse to reveal what that bombshell is.”

Israeli pundits think Abbas will indeed announce the annulment of the Oslo agreements and the other accords, and could also announce that he will end the security cooperation with Israel.

During the interview, the Palestinian President also claimed that the concept of a Jewish State has inspired Islamist groups such as ISIS to establish an Islamic State.

“If Israel wants to be a Jewish state, it provides legitimacy to ISIS and others who seek to establish an Islamic state in Syria, Egypt, and Gaza,” Abbas told his interviewers.

He also accused Israel of trying to change the status quo on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem’s Old City and said that Israel is responsible for the explosion of violence in Jerusalem over the last week. Abbas claimed Israel is trying to divide the Temple Mount between Jews and Muslims in terms of prayer facilities and accessibility.

The Palestinian leader has repeatedly (and falsely) accused Israel of ‘attacking’ the el-Aqsa mosque that was built in the seventh century on the spot where the Jewish Temple once stood. Earlier this year, he said that Jews were ‘defiling” the el-Aqsa mosque when they entered the Temple Mount, the holiest place in Judaism.

The cancellation of the Oslo accords would force Israel to reinstall a civil administration in the territories under control of the Palestinian Authority, something Israel doesn’t want because it could result in a bi-national state where Arabs would outnumber the Jewish population in the end.

Abbas could also declare the “State of Palestine under occupation.” Under international law, this would enable the PLO to seek protection from the international community; and it would enable “Palestine” to file for full membership of the United Nations at the UN Security Council.

Israeli officials immediately warned Abbas “not to break the rules” because it could have personal consequences for him. They hinted that Abbas could be exiled or be locked up in the Muqata (Presidential compound) in Ramallah. Former PA-leader Yasser Arafat underwent a similar fate during the Second Intifada after the IDF retook the Palestinian cities in Operation Defensive Shield.

Meanwhile, the situation on the West Bank, and especially in Jerusalem, remains tense–and could deteriorate further under influence of the anticipated drastic PLO moves.

Police in Jerusalem entered the Arab neighborhood A-Tur today after rocks were thrown on vehicles on the adjacent highway. When they tried to arrest two Arab minors responsible for the rock throwing, police officers were attacked by a violent mob. On several other places in Jerusalem, cars and autobuses were stoned; and a brush fire broke out after a fire bomb was hurled at a police station near the security fence.

Major Nir Barkat of Jerusalem said Thursday that Israel should declare ‘war’ on the Arabs who are responsible for the escalating violence and killed an Israeli citizen on Monday. Barkat said that Israeli police should be allowed to open fire on stone throwers and Arabs who throw Molotov cocktails, and that the punishment for this type of violence must be heavier.

A short while ago, TV Channel 1 in Israel reported that the legal adviser of the Israeli government, Yehuda Weinstein, had allowed the use of life fire against stone throwers and firebomb throwers.

“Throughout the last few years, even when police used to catch teenagers throwing stones, they were very, very quickly released by the courts,” Barkat said. “And so they gained confidence.”

“That is a common complaint from Jerusalem residents, who claim to see the same teenagers throwing firebombs, getting arrested, being freed and returning days later to attack them again,” the Times of Israel reported.

Barkat has been personally involved in terror attacks by Arabs in Jerusalem. In February this year, he and his bodyguard subdued a Palestinian terrorist after he saw the Arab trying to stab Jews near City Hall in Jerusalem. Later, his car was pelted with stones when he speeded to the spot of a terror attack on the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem.
