According to ABC News, a prominent Muslim financial executive has made an eight-figure donation to Yale Law School in his pursuit of establishing America’s leading Islamic law center. Abdallah Kamel, who heads the Sharia-compliant Dallah Al Baraka Group, recently bankrolled the eponymous addition after spending the past three years presenting a series of Islamic law lectures at the Ivy League law school.
The center is reportedly similar to an existing Harvard Law School program endorsed at its inception by the king of Saudi Arabia. Some on the Yale campus, including professor Anthony Kronman, welcome the new facility.
Kronman, who is serving as the center’s co-director, asserted that it is “the responsibility of universities to teach and instruct, and that obligation applies with a particular force where an issue or a subject tends to be viewed in an incomplete or inadequate or even caricatured way.”
Not everyone is so keen on the idea of Kamel backing such an effort. Many critics cited the issues raised in a recent report by Breitbart’s Jordan Schachtel.

He pointed out that the Dallah Al Baraka Group has been investigated by U.S. authorities on suspicion of funding al-Qaeda terrorism. The U.S. State Department obtained additional information linking the organization’s founding to Osama Bin Laden and a network of jihadist fighters from Sudan. Others, including outspoken conservative actor James Woods, feel the Islamic law center is just another step toward introducing Sharia law into the American justice system.
