A previously scheduled rally supporting the Kentucky official jailed for not issuing gay marriage licenses included an appearance by just-released Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis. As Western Journalism reported, U.S. District Judge David Bunning ordered her release Tuesday morning.
Several Republican presidential candidates have weighed in on the topic, though Mike Huckabee has consistently been among Davis’ most ardent political supporters. He introduced Davis to an enthusiastic crowd shortly after issuing a direct message to Bunning, a Republican judge appointed by George W. Bush.

“If this judge believes that somebody must be put in jail because a person is willing to stand on the biblical definition of marriage and is willing to stand because they believe the Constitution does not allow the courts to make up law according to their own whims,” he said, “–if the judge believes that, then I would ask this of him: Let Kim go, but if you have to put someone in jail, let me go.”
He went on to share the lengths to which he is willing to go in his pursuit of protecting Davis’ freedom, beginning with three words that resonated with many in attendance.
“Lock me up,” he said, “if you think that’s how freedom is best served. Folks, I am willing to spend the next eight years in the White House leading this country, but I want you to know I’m willing to spend the next eight years in jail. But I’m not willing to spend one day under the tyranny of people who believe they can take our freedom and conscience away.”
GOP presidential candidate Ted Cruz also traveled to Kentucky to show his support for Davis, sharing a photo of the meeting on Twitter.

Other social media posts, however, prove the divisive official continues to evoke the vitriol of her detractors. Does Kim Davis deserve to be in jail? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
