Because a private San Diego Christian school refuses to tolerate homosexuality, threats of lawsuits from a lesbian couple that believes that getting their way should trump the school’s religious principles are filling the air.
Mt. Erie Christian Academy, which takes not one nickel of support from the government, told two women the child they are raising could not attend kindergarten at the school because the women’s lifestyle conflicted with school rules.
The school’s handbook is very clear.
“On those occasions in which the atmosphere or conduct within a particular home is counter to or in opposition to the biblical lifestyle that the school teaches, the school reserves the right, within its sole discretion, to refuse admission of an applicant or to discontinue enrollment of a student,” the handbook said.
The handbook went on to be quite specific.
“This includes, but is not necessarily limited to, living in, condoning or supporting sexual immorality; practicing homosexual lifestyle or alternative gender identity; promoting such practices; or otherwise having the inability to support the moral principles of the school (Leviticus 20:13a; Romans 1:21-27; Matthew 19:4-6; I Corinthians 6:9-20),” the handbook read.
Despite this, the couple insists they have a right to get their way and force the school to admit the girl. They are mulling a lawsuit, and summoning the American Civil Liberties Union and other groups to support them.
San Diego attorney Eugene Iredale has already fired a volley that says this case is not about one school and one child, but the wider issue of the free exercise of religion in America.
“If you have a religion that believed in human sacrifice or amputation of the arm or the hand for theft, would we permit that in the interest of permitting the free practice of one’s religion? I don’t think so, and one could argue that psychologically… this is as devastating to the little 5-year-old girl as some of those other vicious practices,” he said.
The school has offered limited comment; but in a message to parents, it signaled its intention to resist.
“We stand firmly behind our board’s decision and ask that you support us through this time. We may receive some backlash from those who do not respect our Biblical perspective, however we will continue to provide a Christian education,” the message said.

America was Great Nation before Bible was taking out of the schools. Now it’s on the pass of distraction like Sodom and Gomorrah. Christian schools have the rights to reject non christian kids. This all propaganda by Gays and lesbians to get their way. Why they choose this school? They don’t believe in Jesus and his teachings. Their daughter will be learning that her parents live in sin and will go to hell. Why do they want harm their daughter? Oh, maybe they got money from Obama for a Law Suit.
