Following an emotionally charged speech during which Barack Obama announced executive action meant to make it more difficult for certain Americans to own firearms, numerous pundits and reporters focused on one moment. Speaking of the toll gun violence – especially against children – has taken on him personally, Obama repeatedly wiped tears from his face.
The moment was largely seen as either heartrending or opportunistic, with many conservative pundits falling into the latter camp.
Fox News Channel anchor Megyn Kelly weighed in on Twitter by sharing a question her colleague, Marc Thiessen, had about Obama’s priorities.
.@marcthiessen on Pres. Obama’s gun control remarks today: “The question is where is that emotion when it comes to terrorism?” #KellyFile

Her comment did attract some support among others who question Obama’s motives and authenticity as they relate to his emotional display.
@megynkelly @marcthiessen Obama is so scripted, so fake.

The reaction was not all positive, though, and included several comments critical of the tone Kelly and others in the media adopted after Tuesday’s speech.
@megynkelly @marcthiessen UM these gun attacks ARE terrorism. — Bradford Shellhammer (@youngbradford) January 6, 2016
.@megynkelly@marcthiessen Sometimes I think media personalities have no soul whatsoever. Do you REALLY think it doesn’t matter to him??

Kelly wasn’t the only Fox News personality to attract wide-ranging responses for her comment. Outnumbered panelist Andrea Tantaros suggested on Tuesday that a “raw onion” might have been responsible for Obama’s tears.
