After President Obama made a gesture to call attention to some victims of violence while ignoring others, Republican presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, replied to remind Americans of the many victims of violence ignored by the Democratic Party.
Obama announced that when he gives his lame duck State of the Union speech on Tuesday, one seat in the president’s guest box will be left empty “to honor the victims of gun violence.”
Cruz tweeted a different concept.
“If I’m elected POTUS, there’ll be an empty seat for the over 50 million unborn children killed since Roe #Stand4Life,” tweeted Cruz, who has strongly opposed abortion and called for an end to federal funding for Planed Parenthood.
Obama’s State of the Union tactic is in keeping with his efforts to use his final year to wage an all-out assault on gun ownership, Cruz noted.
Not long after Obama announced a package of executive actions to limit gun ownership, the Cruz campaign website posted a photoshopped image of Obama in combat gear, with a caption that says, “Obama wants your guns.”
“It is actually quite accurate. This is the most anti-gun president we’ve ever seen,” Cruz said in a follow-up interview.
When CNN asked why he does not believe Obama is out to protect children from gun violence, Cruz related an anecdote.
He recalled, “Senator Dianne Feinstein, who said, ‘if I could go to Mr. America, Ms. America, and say, hand over your guns, I want all of your guns, I would do it.’”
“I believe Dianne when she said that. And you know what? Barack Obama is in exactly the same boat,” Cruz said
