WhatsApp’s voice calling feature has arrived for iOS users — one month after the feature launched for Android.
The company said its new calling feature is rolling out slowly to Apple device users over the next several weeks.
“Call your friends and family using WhatsApp for free, even if they’re in another country,” the iTunes description of the product reads. “WhatsApp calls use your phone’s Internet connection rather than your cellular plan’s voice minutes. Data charges may apply.”
WhatsApp announced late last year it would be adding the voice call feature to its popular messaging platform.
Facebook, which owns WhatsApp, revealed at the Mobile World Congress in Spain that plans were in place to allow the app’s users to voice call one another, Tech Central reported. That, of course, means users won’t have to rely on their carriers for minutes and calls.
The voice calling feature, is just one of a handful of new features to be included in the 2.12.1 update, however.
An iOS 8 share extension enables users to share photos, videos, and links right to WhatsApp from other apps while a quick camera button in chats enables users to capture photos and videos, or quickly choose a recent camera roll photo or video.
Other changes include the ability to edit one’s contacts right from WhatsApp and the ability to send multiple videos at once as well as crop and rotate videos before sending them.
