Mary Ellen Trainor – ‘Goonies’ Mom Dies
Goonies mom, Mary Ellen Trainor is dead at 62. The accomplished character actress was featured in both the cult classic, Goonies, and in the Lethal Weapon movies. Trainor was also a philanthropist. The actress began her movie career as a producer’s assistant. In 1979 she worked on the Steven Spielberg film, 1941.
The Goonies mom passed away at her home in Montecito, California on May 20, according to longtime friend and Lucafilm President Kathleen Kennedy. Mary Ellen Trainor’s future husband, director Robert Zemeckis, directed 1941. The couple married in 1980 and Zemeckis cast Trainor in her first film, Romancing the Stone. She played the kidnapped sister of Kathleen Turner’s character. Zemeckis and Trainor, divorced in 2000 and had one child, Alex Zemeckis.
