t was one big sucker punch captured on surveillance video that's now kicked off a manhunt, and has turned a sidewalk fight into a homicide with international aspects. It's also a situation that has police defending against claims that they responded too slowly to an incident in which a man from Switzerland was killed in the Bronx.
The video, recorded by the Guerrero Deli, where the incident occurred, is clear, detailed and disturbing. The NYPD responded to PIX11′s request for response time information by saying that it received the first 911 call related to the incident at 12:07 A.M., and that EMS was on scene seven minutes later to transport the victim. Police responded eight minutes after the emergency call was received, according to the NYPD. There's no telling if the victim would have survived if aid had arrived sooner, but witnesses said they'd wished it had. Meanwhile, a manhunt is on for the suspect, and knowing that he killed a man with just a few punches has left neighbors in the area nervous. “It was scary because you don't know what's going on,” said Nayeli Escobar, who lives in the same building in which the bodega is located. She said that she was surprised that she hadn't heard any disturbance the night before. Still, she said, “It's very frightening.” Police sources tell PIX11 News that they're hoping the suspect's easily identifiable features lead to a quick arrest. |
