The leading scorer in the Chinese Basketball Association has been suspended for testing positive for marijuana use.
Marcus Williams, former NBA player, can’t play in the rest of this season, which runs through Feb. 17, according to regime mouthpiece Xinhua.
“We had no idea the CBA tested for marijuana until now,” remarked Beijing Cream wryly.
Zhao Jian, vice director of China Anti-doping Agency, said that only 12 tests have been conducted so far this season, leading Beijing Cream to speculate “something seems a bit fishy,” because the team’s owner is a troublemaker.
“I sincerely apologize,” said Williams, according to Xinhua. “I have let a lot of people down and I regret it more then anything. I understand everyone’s disappointment and I will do everything to improve and grow from this.”
The regime mouthpiece used the opportunity to note that Michael Phelps was banned from swimming for three months after admitting to smoking marijuana at a party in 2008 and that “the most recently notable marijuana case” was American judo fighter Nick Delpopolo, who was expelled from the London Olympics.
The Shanxi Brave Dragons, currently a game out of first place, will now try to find another foriegner to replace Williams, according to Beijing Cream.
