(Before It's News)

Jiang Zemin, the former Chinese Communist Party leader who is infamous for persecuting the Falun Gong meditation discipline, was taken forcibly from his home a few days ago, a source in China told the Epoch Times newspaper.

Epoch Times is still trying to verify whether the report is true, the newspaper stated. The source of the report is a member of the security detail whose commander ordered Jiang’s removal, according to Epoch Times.

The source told the newspaper that Jiang was removed from his home on June 10 in the early morning.

Incidentally, June 10 is the well-known anniversary of the day in 1999 when Jiang created the 610 Office, an organization that helped him carry out his campaign of violence against Falun Gong practitioners in China.

Epoch Times stated, “The source told Epoch Times that the order to remove Jiang came directly from the Central Military Commission, the regime’s top armed forces governing body, and was conducted with extreme secrecy.”

Jiang was given to a People’s Armed Police squad, which took him to a military compound and handed him over to a lieutenant general and senior colonel of the People’s Liberation Army, the source told Epoch Times.

Epoch Times noted that there have been no official reports on the situation.

If Jiang has indeed been arrested, it might not surprise those who have been following the situation in China. Jiang’s political supporters have already been arrested one after another in the anti-corruption campaign carried out by Jiang’s rival, current Party leader Xi Jinping.

Many of Jiang’s supporters are those who have helped him persecute Falun Gong.

Falun Gong, a meditation practice based on the principles of truthfulness, compassion, and tolerance, is practiced by tens of millions of people in China and worldwide.  It is widely known for its physical and mental health benefits.

According to Minghui.org, a website that reports on the persecution of Falun Gong, Jiang felt threatened by the practice’s enormous popularity. He started the mass arrest and killing of practitioners in 1999, and the brutal persecution has continued ever since.

Many practitioners are hopeful that Jiang’s arrest will help bring an end to the persecution.
