-SCOTUS Gives Wheaton College An Injunction Against HHS Mandate

One of the actions of the Supreme Court that received little attention compared with the Hobby Lobby controversy was an injunction handed out to Wheaton College just before closing time for Independence Day. The action incurred the wrath of the three woman justices who were still smarting over the Hobby Lobby decision. In this situation, the evangelical Christian college was given a stay against the enforcement of the HHS Contraceptive Mandate while their case is on appeal.

The Obama administration had supposedly made some concessions for religious institutions but the paper work involved still demanded the institution to be responsible for assigning authority to a third party. Then there is the very real question of who really pays for it all. If an insurance company is forced to freely provide for expensive abortifacients then aren’t those expenses going to be passed on and hidden in the cost of their future health plans?  Of course they are and the administration who has very few folks who have ever been in the private sector naively refuse to accept and understand that business reality.

The Wheaton College case is particularly significant because there are literally 100’s of Christian institutions in a similar situation. Many of them are also involved in legal action against the HHS mandate.               *Top
