When Tyrants Terrorize We the People
There was a huge sigh of relief this week among pro-life Christians when religious liberty in America was deemed to still exist, at least to the extent that if you own a company you don’t have to subsidize your employees as they kill their children.
The Hobby Lobby Case went all the way to the Supreme Court. The Court upheld the Green family’s right to not pay for that part of their employee’s insurance plan that chemically kills children. This is an important victory and we can and should be grateful for it. Chalk one up for part of the First Amendment and religious liberty.
Yet this same Supreme Court let a lower court ruling stand that restricts licensed counselors from providing counsel for those with unwanted same-sex attractions, behaviors, or identity. People will not be allowed to get help sorting out these complex matters. So much for our First Amendment freedom of speech.
A TICKING TIME BOMB
Every year we have this traumatic count down as the Supreme Court comes to the end of their session. Many rulings of the most controversial cases are all rolled out at once. The proponents or opponents are left scrambling to make sense of the Court’s schizophrenia. Because of the arbitrariness of the Court they have become a terror to the people.
We have one Supreme Court Justice who said her race and gender, not the Constitution itself, ought to be the basis of her rulings. This subjective approach to law makes the courts a source of instability rather than a place of equity. Lady Justice wears a blindfold because its not supposed to matter who is before her. She renders her verdict on the basis of “equal justice under law.”
“We the people” ratified the Constitution as our Law. It is to limit the government, divide its power and protect our essential liberties. We are supposed to be a nation of laws, not of arbitrary people. Now our Constitution has become whatever five of nine Justices say it is.
Rather than limiting themselves to be objective umpires who apply the simple wording Constitution, these Justices act arbitrarily. They have found things hidden in the penumbra of the Constitution like the right to abortion and sodomy. Justice Clarence Thomas warns that in many instances he has seen that in order to reach a desired outcome, Justices just “make up stuff.”
THE REMEDY
While we rejoice in our victory for religious liberty this week, remember the Supreme Court has been overturned, either in whole or in part, over 100 times. We’ve lost our way as a nation because “We the people” do not insist on limited constitutional government. This idea of a written constitution was based on the Christian doctrine of covenant. The people have a right to know the laws. They simply can’t be arbitrarily changed by any one branch of government, thus the checks and balances.
The Founders gave constitutional remedies to the representatives of the people, but no one has shown the political courage to use them. No tyrannical judges are ever impeached or defunded by Congress when they overreach. When the Obama Administration ignores the Constitution and uses regulations to legislate a political agenda instead of passing laws, Congress sits by helplessly refusing to impeach.
We should not have to live in fear that our fundamental rights are up for grabs every session of Congress, or at the whim of a President or in every session of the Supreme Court. Ordered liberty under God is being eroded as we the people are asleep. The ruling elites mock our insistence they act under the terms of our national covenant. We the people have to demand an end to this relativistic and arbitrary law.
TAKE ACTION:
The Constitution cannot defend itself. Register to vote and ONLY vote for those who will faithfully uphold the Constitution. It is our only hedge against the tyranny of our won government.
