Fr. Campbell- The Gospel to All Nations
“With most of them” – those who followed Moses in the Sinai desert – “God was not well pleased” (1Cor.10:5). They murmured against God: “Would that we had meat for food! We remember the fish we used to eat without cost in Egypt, and the cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions, and the garlic” (Num.11:4,5). Their punishment, says St. Paul, was that “they were laid low in the desert” (1Cor.10:5). His advice to us: “Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them tempted, and perished by the serpents. Neither murmur, as some of them murmured, and perished at the hands of the destroyer” (1Cor.10:8-10).
