(Before It's News)

As we explore the topic of marriage and dating this month, we had the chance to ask Dr. Juli Slattery a few questions:
What’s your name, and what do you do?
This month on I4J, we’re talking about marriage and dating. How does marriage and dating relate to your work?
The mission of
Authentic Intimacy is to “reclaim God’s design for intimacy.” I write, speak and teach women about sexuality, intimacy, and marriage, so dating and marriage issues are at the bullseye of what I do every day.
What’s the best advice you ever received about marriage and dating?
Romantic love is a wonderful gift from God but it makes a terrible god when it becomes the center of our lives.
Think ten or fifteen years back. How would you advise your younger self?
Never underestimate God’s redemption in even the most desperate circumstances. Begin thanking Him for victory before you even can imagine what a victory would look like in your present circumstances.
What is God teaching you about leadership lately?
Over the past few decades, our culture has become so confused about dating, sexuality, and intimacy. We sabotage intimacy and try to fill our loneliness with sex. God has been teaching me the foundational importance of knowing Christ and building deep intimacy in our friendships and relationships.
If you could be discipled by one person (who isn’t Jesus) past or present, who would you like it be and why?
Daniel. He was so faithful in seeking God throughout his lifetime, in times of obscurity, oppression, and success.
For fun: What’s giving you joy right now? This could be anything from fuzzy socks to a great verse or podcast to grandkid photos.
I have three teenage boys. I love watching them grow into young men right before my eyes!
