More Thoughts about Pop Culture and My Angels

(Before It's News)

I really have a lot to say about pop culture in general, but in saying it, I am building my own audience not really being sure why there is interest in what I have said so far.  What bothers me the most about pop culture, especially on TV and movies is that there is just too much violence.  In my saying this, some will wonder why then I can approve of horror movies.  I won't say that ghouls, vampires, zombies, and other things that go bump in the night aren't real, but generally speaking, I can say that horror movies are designed to frighten and in doing so, there is a kind of entertainment effect that takes place when one has shivers going up and down one's spine.

I have always had a problem with violence on TV and in movies, because in fact, the violence is real, even though it is not.  I don't care for movies that are thrillers involving a real person doing the murdering.  This bothers me.  Some would suggest that ghoouls, vampires, zombbies, and other such creatures ARE real and are even Satanic in nature.  It's not that I disagree with such thinking, it's just that for me, what is Satanic is more real than not.  And yes, in hoorror movies are real people that do the killing and murdering, but the fact is, I can't take ANY horror movie seriously and I don't.  I can't say the same for the violence on TV and in movies that often depiect real killing with real deaths.  And yes, there are horror stories based on real murderers, but in my thinking, a good horror story isn't about real people, but about DEAD people doing the real murdering.  And often I will wonder to myself whether dead people can in some way come to life.  It's like this with sci-fi movies that often will border on being horror movies.  I don't have a problem with murdering and mayhem by characters that just aren't real.  And that is my point.

There is just too much REAL violence in movies and TV that I just can't watch.  It doesn't matter to me that in Hollywood, everything on TV and in movies is a matter of something made up in someone's mind.  I understand this.  I don't fault those who like the violence on TV.  But in our culture we seem to praise the violence in TV and in movies while seemingly shunning all things sexual, saying it's the sex that is evil.  I say it's just the opposite.  It's the violence in TV and movies that is really evil and that sexual content can be appreciated for what it is.  But this isn't how western culture think;s and in my thinking, I can handle the sexual and make-believe violence from make-believe characters much better than anything that is depicted as being real drama.  It's the latter I really can't tolerate.  Peace.  I am Brother Ralphie writing for my Angels from The Angels of Life Institute.  Peace.
