Faith comes by Hearing… and hearing by the Word of GOD

The best writing creates a picture in the mind. So do spoke words. “Faith comes by hearing”. Have you noticed how much the visual media is used to attack the Bible and Israel?

In much of the Western world, morning TV is a state of open warfare on God, the church and Israel. TV hosts look straight into the camera and spout lies, fantasies and fake news all dictated by a corporate political agenda. Presentation covers a multitude of lies. No proof is required, the cult of celebrity demands worship. Too many take the easy way out instead of being like the Bereans, testing the media’s message against the truth. Is it any wonder that it seems that “popular” opinion runs in anti-Bible, and anti-Israel herds.

Visual media engages several senses: eyes, ears and some of the intellect. It removes the viewer from where they are and places them where the presenter wants them to be. No multi-tasking is allowed (that’s why there no videos allowed in the driver’s seat). Marshall McLuhan once termed tv as a “cool medium”. At the writing of his essay television was new to the population at large and in its early days, news was reported by journalists who had earned credibility. Scripts for drama and even comedy were generally intelligent, creative and well crafted. Today’s entertainment medium has pursued graphic violence, sexual obscenity, and like the Roman Colosseum, works overtime to outdo its last violation of humanity. Many in America place a wide open translation to the First Amendment although it seems today that attacking Bible believers is a First Amendment- free speech right yet defenders of their faith are accused hate speech.

Social media has given believers and opportunity to take the proactive position and form groups, to respond to lies and fake news by comments and other measures. Passivity is no longer an option. But some guidelines are necessary to use the new word weapons effectively.

We are admonished to “speak the truth in love”. Choose your words wisely. Read and re-read them before posting. Spellcheck (mis-spelling is the sign of carelessness and not thinking and gives opponents more reasons to criticize.). Select your platform with care. Avoid inflammatory groups or repeating unverifiable posts. Much on Facebook is reposting of old or outright misleading information. Confirm the source, cite it by link in your post, it will gain proper credibility and be shared. Spread the good seed, not the tares.

Meme’s are a new medium and very popular. Use them carefully. Verify your image. Spell check. Cite a link. Don’t overdo it. Some sites are notorious for Photoshopping images. Sharing unverified memes is being an accomplice to an illegitimate use of Socialmedia and harms the cause.

Fake news detection is not rocket science. Some of it is satire (a literary device). The website of the source is the best verification. Look to see what else the site has published. Be careful for security reasons as well since many sites have malware and other computer dangers within. Russian and Chinese sites are regular suspects. Do not assume every Israeli, Christian or religious site is to be believed. Most have a declaration of belief or other statement of goals. Do not share sites that violate Biblical statutes no matter how tempting or attractive. The mainstream media is on a campaign to declare all news but their own to be “fake”. They have maligned the online public as incapable of knowing fact from fiction. The online searching savvy of most internet users is incredibly astute; Google algorithms offer good rumor and outright fraud detection. Fake news seems to be generated by those most concerned about it.

Now more than ever the battle for hearts and minds is in earnest. We cannot compromise our loyalty to The King by using the ends justifies the means or enemy of my enemies is my friend position or tactics. Speak or post the truth in love, fearlessly, faithfully and obediently. Stand with The Land.
