In The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, a notice was posted about the demolition of the main character’s home. It was on display in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying ‘Beware of the Leopard’.
The signs of the potential upcoming economic demise of the world as we know it are much more obvious. Everyone from the International Monetary Fund, the United Nations, Citibank, and the Bank for International Settlements are crying in a loud voice that tragedy is on its way. Why is nobody listening?

Complacency is often accompanied by denial and denial is usually a result of a situation so bad that it’s unspeakable. People would rather go about living their carefree lives rather than see the writing on the wall. It didn’t work out so well for King Belshazzar and it probably won’t work out very well for us, either.
