U.S. Marshals Arrest Escaped Standoff Fugitive

Salinas, CA – Agustin Leon-Palomares, age 30, was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force along with the assistance of the Salinas Police Department and the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office, late Monday night in Salinas, CA and is currently in the Monterey County Jail.
Agustin Leon-Palomares had warrants out of Santa Cruz County and Monterey County for terroristic threats, felon in possession of a weapon, and other charges. Last week, U.S. Marshals attempted to arrest Agustin Leon-Palomares in the 1300 block of Cherokee Dr. in Salinas, CA which led to a long standoff situation. A specialized team which consisted of U.S. Marshals Task Force Members, Salinas Police Department, and the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office continued to work around the clock searching for Agustin Leon-Palomares. Agustin Leon-Palomares was located at the Americas Best Value Inn, based off of tips provided by the community.
U.S. Marshal Don O'Keefe said: “The U.S. Marshals and their partners will not rest until they have their fugitive. This is a great example of perseverance and dedication from law enforcement and community alike. I'd like to thank the Salinas PD, Santa Cruz Sheriff’s Office, and Monterey County for their support and ongoing collaboration.”
The U.S. Marshals Service is the primary Federal agency charged with conducting fugitive investigations throughout the United States and abroad. The U.S. Marshals Service regularly works in concert with other federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to seek out and arrest violent fugitives and sex offenders, and has established task forces throughout the nation to facilitate the apprehension of fugitives.
