After today’s strong M5.5 solar flare at 01:02 UTC another two moderate class solar flares erupted. On August 18, 2012 at 03:23 UTC new Active Region 1548 erupted with M1.8 solar flare followed by M2.0 at 16:27 UTC.
More M-class events are expected from Region 1548. This new active region is now turning towards Earth and could herald geomagnetic activity in the following days. It already produced 4 M-class flares. Although the region’s magnetic morphology remains unknown for the moment there is a risk for X-class events in the following days.
There is 10% chance for another M-class, and 01% chance of X-class event today.
