The increase in activity at Popocatepetl volcano (Mexico) appears to be real.  Emissions of gas and ash remain high, at around 100 per day, and recent photos of the activity show moderate sized plumes entrained with significantly more ash than in recent weeks.  Recent seismograms recorded at the volcano have intermittently shown stronger periods of volcanic tremor as well.  The current seismogram is a mess due to the recurrent software problem there, but seems to show strong volcanic tremor.

Seismograms from the Guatemalan volcanoes are again online after being down since last weeks big earthquake.  There appear to be no ill-effects on the internal workings of volcanoes from the M7.4 earthquake or its continuing aftershock sequence (aftershocks from the major quake are especially visible on the Fuego seismogram) (FG3).  If anything, tremor at Santa Maria volcano (STG6) seems to have diminished since we last viewed activity there.  Low level (local) tremor and aftershocks (and telemetry interference!) from the offshore earthquake are also visible on seismograms at Pacaya volcano (PCG).

A modest-sized volcanic earthquake swarm is underway at Telica volcano (Nicaragua) this morning. (station TELN)

Small earthquakes continue at Tongariro and Ruapehu volcanoes (New Zealand).  Volcanic tremor rumbles on beneath White Island volcano.

No significant SO2-rich plumes recorded in satellite data again today!
