The World Trade Organization announced it will investigate China’s rare earth quota policy, following complaints from the U.S., Europe, and Japan that China is trying to further monopolize the rare earths industry, RareEarthInvestingNews reports. Chinese exports of rare earth oxides fell 56 percent in the first five months of 2012. China claims its current policies are necessary to curb environmental destruction associated with rapid RE mining.
