(Before It's News)

The ‘Obama Phone’ Myth: After a YouTube video of a woman claiming she was voting for President Obama because he gave her a cellphone hit the top of the Drudge Report on Thursday, you knew it was just a matter of time before conservatives would use the claim to slam the administration on handouts. But what you probably didn’t know is that there really is a government program that allows low-income people to apply for free phones. It’s the FCC’s “Lifeline: Affordable Telephone Service for Income-Eligible Consumers.” And guess when the program began? If you picked during Obama’s term, you’d be wrong. The answer is during the 1980s, when Ronald Reagan was president. Sorry conservatives, but there is no such thing as the “Obama phone.” (Read more)

Another Religion Assertion: In case you missed the memo, President Obama is (still) not a Muslim. Not like that’s stopping some in the Republican Party from repeatedly making that claim, though. In the latest example, a volunteer for the Republican Party in Florida left a message on the machine of a potential voter making that and other ridiculous proclamations. “I don’t know if you have done any research on Obama or not, but he is a Muslim,” the female volunteer said in the message. The woman also said that Obama wants to turn the U.S. into a “socialist country.” Hmmm. Must be a Fox News viewer. (Read more)

Obama Impeachment: Speaking of Fox News, former Arkansas governor (and current Fox News host) Mike Huckabee suggested on the conservative news network that President Obama should be impeached over the attack on the U.S. Embassy in Libya. Said Huckabee: “Richard Nixon was forced out of office because he lied. And because he covered some stuff up. I will be blunt and tell you this. Nobody died in Watergate. We have people who are dead because of this. There are questions to be answered and Americans ought to demand to get answers.” (Read more)

Bush Beats Romney: Congratulations Mitt Romney, you’ve made George W. Bush look good! A new Bloomberg survey shows that the former president’s favorability rating is higher than Romney’s. (Read more)

Calling Akin Out: Sen. Claire McCaskill is ripping Republican opponent Todd Akin after he made a sexist remark about the Missouri Democrat. McCaskill, whose re-election odds are probably getting better by the day, fired back at Akin on Friday, claiming he is more conservative than even the most fringe Republicans in Congress. Said McCaskill: “I mean, this is somebody who kind of makes Michele Bachmann look like a hippie.” McCaskill also said she didn’t know “exactly what his accusation that I’m not ladylike means.” (Read more)

The Lowest of the Low? It’s well documented that the Massachusetts Senate contest between Scott Brown and Elizabeth Warren has devolved into one of the nastiest campaigns of this election year, but there’s one that might be even worse—the Florida congressional race between Republican Rep. Allen West and Democrat Patrick Murphy. The campaign has featured nonstop attack ads that basically make the Brown-Warren matchup look (relatively) tame by comparison. (Read more)

Video of the Day: “The View’s” Whoopi Goldberg took Ann Coulter to task after the conservative commentator expressed her controversial views on race during an appearance on the show. Coulter was on the program promoting her new book “Mugged.”
