There’s a time when every liberty-loving person realizes that he must leave his family behind. You may always love them and wish them the best, but you will have to accept that they will forever love their slavery and come to resent you for not loving yours. They will always cling to their servitude and will always see you as an emotionally troubled radical. Their opinions will have to cease to matter to you and there may come a point where you have to resolve never to see them again for the sake of your own sanity.
I’m in the last few days of my trip to see my family. I was running an errand that involved a short drive with my father. Over the last five years or so I’ve gone from mildly libertarian to outright anarchist while my father has remained as left-statist as he has been since he was old enough to think about such things. So my conversations with my father during my visits with the family have gotten more and more discordant.
