Children with Potential Hostile Intent

Recently in the Nawa district of Afghanistan, three kids aged 12, 10, and 8 were sent by their parents to gather dung which is a source of fuel for farmers. Without warning, all three were struck down while on the side of the road by a U.S. military air strike. Though the children were later found out to be civilians, one marine questioned their innocence because they were guilty of the horrible crime of digging a hole in a dirt road.
The horror!
Of course, it’s utter nonsense to believe for one second that three children under the age of thirteen posed any threat to the world’s largest empire. That hasn’t stopped young men from living out their violent fantasies by joining the military. According to Army Lt. Col. Marion “Ced” Carrington, the US military now puts its aim on “children with potential hostile intent.”
Like torture before it, the media remains silent over the US government’s continual war crimes. The general public rarely bats an eye anymore when their tax dollars go toward annihilating another innocent life. The War has begun to resemble the failed military excursion in Vietnam where the slaughtering of innocents was an almost regular affair.
The only difference is that American-style warfare is now largely relegated to putting twentysomethings behind a video game joystick which controls a flying killing machine. Delivering death-from-above all the way on the other side of the planet means that good, obedient soldiers are relieved of the pain and anguish that normal people feel when killing a man (and now children apparently) up close. In essence, it removes all recognition of human life in the enemy as ending an individual’s existence becomes a cold and calculated affair.
The worst part about the death of the three Afghan children is that if their parents weren’t instilled with notions of anti-Western sentiment, they definitely are now. Stanley McChrystal, who lead NATO forces in Afghanistan, once said that for every innocent person killed in the War on Terror, ten new enemies are created. As long as the U.S. continues it belligerent foreign policy of imposing democracy through coercion, it will continue to make enemies around the globe.
That, of course, isn’t a concern for the heads of the government who take pleasure in American hegemony. Their thirst for dominance is something that can’t be quenched.

Killing people via drone can be hard. But mostly because it's so damned boring.
An article in TechEye last month reports:
“Drone operators are so bored of their jobs that researcher at MIT are exploring ways to distract pilots which could, bizarrely, make them more 'efficient'.
“…Pilots…spend the lion's share of their time watching screens and waiting for something to happen, because automated systems actually fly the vehicles. [The pilots'] shifts can last as long as 12 hours.”
The poor dears. Drones mostly hover ominously and usually undetected over the house of their victims for hours and hours at a time. The “pilot's” job is to initiate the occasional command — like “come back to base” or “rain Amerian-flavored destruction on that house and the civilian family inside” — once after long stretches of just waiting.
Actually MIT researchers found that the “highly conscientious” personality types most suited to sit around watching a monitor just in case something happens also tended to be the kind who “hesistate when it was necessary to fire a weapon.”
So the mouthbreathers who sign on to the military and are willing to take a check to operate a murder-bot may actully have a problem when it comes time to do something stressful, like killing another human being ought to be. And the folks of MIT are hard at work making this murder by robot go more smoothly and more “efficiently”. Maybe they could develop an app that would text the operator when a potential target comes in to view – then one could simply reply with “kill” and they could go about their day.
This is what your tax dollars are going toward if you live in the US. A moral person with the means may want to take one giant step forward to cease funding murder.
