The Market Ticker – So What Is The Purpose Of A School Again?

(Before It's News)

Gee, one has to wonder, given the proliferation of stories like this.

Jordan Wiser, a student at Ashtabula County Technical School in Jefferson, is finishing up his senior year from home after school officials searched his car in December and found the folding knife and an Airsoft gun. School officials called police, who charged him with illegal conveyance of a weapon onto a school ground based on the three-inch knife.

“I declined to allow them to search myself or my car and that I wanted to talk to my lawyer or my father,” Wiser told FoxNews.com. “They told me it wasn’t an option.”

Wiser, an EMT trainee who hopes to become both a police officer and a soldier, spent 13 days in the Ashtabula County Jail following the incident. The knife, which Wiser said is part of his first responder's kit and can be used for slicing an accident victim's seatbelt, was found tucked inside his EMT medical vest in the trunk of the car. The Airsoft gun, which fires non-lethal pellets, was not illegal and was used by Wiser in a shooting club he belongs to, he said.

So if a three-inch pocketknfe that is clearly a tool and is in an EMT medical vest and secured in the trunk, thereby not available for “immediate use” by someone driving (or as a passenger) in the vehicle is deemed “a weapon” on school grounds where are the arrests of all the people with tire irons and gasoline in similarly-situated places?

After all, both tire irons and gasoline are tools — but both can be abused as weapons.  The former is of approximately equal ability to cause harm (or possibly more) than a three-inch pocket knife while the latter is a weapon of mass destruction if used inappropriately.

And both are in the “possession” of every single vehicle upon school property.

I don't know if probable cause existed to search or not.  The school says yes, but in my opinion and in this sort of case that's immaterial.  The designation of a tool where no evidence exists of its misuse as a “weapon” is exactly the sort of jackbooted Nazi-style behavior that leads to anyone being criminally charged and in fact jailed — and this guy was jailed for 13 days — for literally walking down the street because your shoe is, under this sort of definition game, a weapon.

If we, as citizens, allow this sort of abuse to go on in our so-called “schools” then it is clear that we no longer have places where education is performed.  We have indoctrination centers where a climate of abject fear, punctuated with actual random harm to a small percentage of the people there, is used for purposes exactly identical to those practiced by such bastions of freedom as North Korea.

The correct response to this event is for Ashtabula County Technical School to be empty this morning, with every single student and their parents refusing to allow their children to attend until and unless the policy is changed, the young man in question has his record cleared and a formal and written apology is issued to him — along with damages for the 13 days he unjustly spent in jail are paid by the administrators from their personal funds.

But we as citizens — and those in Ashtabula County — won't do that, will we?

If you live in that county, and don't take this action here, now and today, then you are consenting to the US having an “educational system” that is exactly identical in form and fashion to that of North Korea.

And that's a fact.
