“Would the president raise taxes by executive action?” Fox News’s Ed Henry asked White House spokesman Josh Earnest on Tuesday. It sounds like he might:
“When it comes to specific steps the president may or may not take, I’m not going to rule anything in or out,” Earnest said.
“This is related to the president’s ability to use his executive authority to do what he thinks is the right thing for the country. That, after all, is what the American people elected him to do, and the fact is, we haven’t seen a lot of efficient production out of Congress over the last couple of months.” Earnest did note that “there are laws that are in place that deal with Congress and their power of the purse. And it is Congress’s responsibility to make decisions about the budget,” he added. It’s also Congress’s responsibility to make immigration law, but President Obama recently decided to do that on his own — after saying multiple times that he couldn’t do what he ended up doing.
