“If airplanes that you ride,” one reader, Paul L., informed us yesterday, “were built without tight government regulation there would be crashes everyday and the countryside would be littered with broken planes.”
[A tad bit dramatic, Paul, but, please, go on…]
“It’s tight inspection and testing by the FAA that makes them safe so you don’t have to worry when you ride on them.
“It would be easy for the companies to build airplanes that are almost safe much cheaper and then let the passenger beware. And if it crashed it would be your own fault because you didn’t check the maintenance records and pilot qualifications. I bet you don’t because you depend on regulations and checking by the government, i.e. FAA.
