There is much hype about how you need to “carb load” before a race, and how you can’t perform athletically without lots of carbohydrate in the diet.
All of this load of crap — and all the crap they shove at you come race day — is rather maddening to a LCHF guy like myself. You show up and invariably they try to stuff you full of fracking donuts before the race, and of course the obligatory bananas (also high carb) are there afterward. Oh, and usually something full of rice or some other carb-laden nonsense is offered as “food.”
Its just as bad during the race. The “goo” guys are out in force at the various aid stations, but with one exception (Rock-N-Fly last year) I’ve never seen a bacon station. Incidentally, Rock-n-Fly lived up to its name in that regard — it rocked handing that out. But they blew it (again) with pizza afterward and this year they intend to hand out brownies (cack!) Oh well, you can’t win ‘em all.
