(Before It's News)
An encouraging development tonight.
I was priviledged to be able to meet with Citizens for Diversity in Education along with two very articulate home educating mothers.
CDE is a group tentatively calling itself
“Citizens for Diversity in Education” and had been
meeting regarding some policy changes at Edmonton Public last
fall. Members of our group are involved in alternative Christian education
programs sanctioned by the province education. Members include
executive directors, parents, teachers, and a few board members etc.
Organizations include Meadowlark Christian, Edmonton Christian, Logos Society,
Strathcona Christian, ACSI, AISCA, a candidate for MLA, a few pastors, and
teachers, a former political strategist etc.
We met tonight to discuss the significant concerns regarding Bill 2 Education Act. Those involved in the meeting (approximately 15 individuals, each representing different organizations) were motivated to take action on Bill 2. At tonight’s meeting it was agreed that they would call their membership to action. Reforms they are going to be
requesting are:
1. To have a parent’s paramount right to made decisions regarding their child’s education included as a section in the Education Act.
AHEA has been advocating to have the wording changed in the preamble to reflect a parent’s paramount right in education, but CDE wants this imbedded in the Education Act itself and will lobby this.
2. To have Section 16 changed back to the wording under Section 3 of the current School Act.
All at the meeting recognize that they are entering this effort in the 11th hour, and are aware of the debate on the Education Act beginning Wednesday. They will be encouraging their membership to lobby via telephone and e-mail quickly.
Please pray for their efforts and that their parents will sense the urgency of this issue and that they will be compelled to act.
