(Before It's News)

MADISON – Governor Robert Bentley on Monday will be in Madison to announce 34 additional road and bridge projects that will move forward as part of Round 1 of funding for ATRIP – the Alabama Transportation Rehabilitation and Improvement Program.

Monday’s news conference will take place at 1:00 p.m. along County Line Road.  Governor Bentley will be joined by state and local leaders.

ATRIP is the largest statewide road and bridge improvement program in Alabama’s history.  The initial phase of Round 1 ATRIP funding was announced May 31.  The projects to be announced Monday are in addition to the projects detailed in May.  Funding for ATRIP comes through the use of GARVEE bonds.

The improvements are designed to enhance safety and quality of life for people in communities across the state.  Further, the transportation projects will also serve as an economic development tool.  Updated roads and bridges will help the state recruit additional jobs from companies that depend on a modern, solid infrastructure to transport goods.
