Freshman Congressman adds another endorsement, just days after notching
PolitickerNJ.com “Winner of the Week” status for extremely strong labor support

Evesham, August 7, 2012 – Just days after earning PolitickerNJ.com “Winner of the Week” status for his strong support from organized labor, freshman Congressman Jon Runyan’s campaign announced that he has been endorsed by the NJ State Legislative Board of the United Transportation Union.

In an August 1, 2012 letter, New Jersey State Director Daniel J O’Connell told Rep. Runyan that: “Your name will appear in the October Election Issue of the UTU News as the recommended candidate for Congress. Every active and retired member in the district will receive a copy prior to Election Day.”

The UTU is the largest railroad operating union in North America, with more than 500 locals, drawing members primarily from the operating crafts – conductors, brakemen, switchmen, yardmasters, ground service personnel, locomotive engineers, hostlers and workers in associated crafts. It also represents bus and mass transit employees, such as drivers and mechanics, on approximately 45 bus and transit systems, and has recently grown to include airline pilots, dispatchers and other airport personnel.

Since May 1st, Runyan has earned endorsements from the Plumbers & Pipefitters Local Union 322, United States Chamber of Commerce, Teamsters Joint Council 73, International Association of Heat & Frost Insulators & Allied Workers, International Union of Operating Engineers Local 825, New Jersey Building and Construction Trades Council, International Union of Painters and Allied Trades, NJ Laborers Union, Monmouth-Ocean Building & Construction Trades Council, the New Jersey Policemen’s Benevolent Association and the Recreational Fishing Alliance.

“Members of Congress need to work together, and across partisan lines, in order to get our economy moving again and create job opportunities for hardworking people in South Jersey and across the country,” said Rep. Runyan. “With the support of people in Burlington and Ocean counties, I will be a leader in that regard in Washington and continue putting people before politics.”
