“Broken” Washington Has Become Biggest Threat

Batesville, IN (Oct 15) – On the day of the first debate with his rivals, Republican U.S. Senate candidate Richard Mourdock today emphasized the need to send businesses clear, long term signals to get our economy growing again. During a tour of Batesville Tool and Die, Mourdock discussed the job-creation principles that won him endorsements from several business organizations, including the Indiana Chamber of Commerce, Indiana Manufacturers Association and National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), among others.

“Simply put, Washington is broken, and President Obama and his congressional allies like Congressman Joe Donnelly have become the biggest obstacle to progress.  We have to have change in Washington if we’re going to do in Washington what we have accomplished here in Indiana,” he continued.

“Working alongside Governor Mitch Daniels, I helped us craft a recipe I want to export to Washington,” said Mourdock, who again stressed six key principles he would follow in the Senate, including:

• Give businesses and investors clear, long term signals
• Cut and simplify the federal tax burden
• Repeal job-killing laws and regulations
• Make government live within its means
• Leverage home grown energy sources
• Promote trade and exports

Adding to announcements Mourdock made on economic growth at Subaru in Lafayette on August 23rd, the Brazil Chamber of Commerce on August 28th and the Cook Medical Bloomington plant on October 12th, Mourdock argued that Washington has become the single largest impediment to job growth.

“Today, our business managers and farmers don’t know what their tax rates, health care costs or federal programs will look like 90 days from now.  Washington gave us a tax on medical devices that have already cost thousands of Hoosier jobs, and have stopped plans for creating many more. There is no way we create new jobs if we cannot get Washington to establish clear, long-term policies,” said Mourdock, who pointed out that under the stewardship of Majority Leader Harry Reid, the Senate has not even considered a budget in over three years.
