Tim Scott drew national attention two years ago by becoming the first black Republican elected to Congress from the Deep South for more than a century. And the Republican fiscal hawk has earned widespread admiration for a solid first term representing South Carolina’s 1st District in the U.S. House.

He deserves a second term.

Mr. Scott was remarkably frugal with taxpayer money during his 13 years on County Council and two years in the S.C. House.

He’s taken the same approach to Congress. He’s even dared to occasionally buck the GOP House leadership by opposing some spending hikes that he deemed excessive.

That’s the type of bottom-line realism we need in Washington.
