REPORT SCOPE

FOREWORD

Political unrest behind the Arab Spring caused outages in oil and gas production throughout parts of the Arab world, which had a carryover effect during 2012. On top of this the shut-down of the Fukushima nuclear reactor and earthquake-related reductions in Japanese coal fired power generation, plus the subsequent closure of additional reactors in Japan and Europe, merged to reduce overall output. A drought in the United States lowering corn yields exacerbated this trend.

These constraints on production of traditional power generation kept the average oil price above $100 for a majority of the year. The green energy market, no longer the darling of the venture capital community, revived somewhat in response to this, and also to increasing demographic demands.

This Energy and Resources Research Review provides a sampling of the type of quantitative market information, analysis and guidance that has been aiding business decision making since BCC was founded in 1971. It includes highlights of reports published in 2012 on the following energy and resources markets:

Global Markets, Technologies and Devices for Energy Harvesting.
Global Markets for Natural Gas-Fired Electricity Generation
Unconventional Natural Gas Extraction: Technologies and Global Markets.
Advanced Materials and Devices for Renewable Energy: Global Markets.
Gas-to-Liquids Processes for Chemicals and Energy Production.

We hope you find this Research Review valuable, and we look forward to serving our customers’ energy market research needs
